OneDrive: How to Delete or Restore Files and Folders

Instructions for deleting and restoring files and folders in OneDrive.

To delete files and folders from OneDrive website:

  1. Go to the OneDrive website: http://onedrive.com.

  2. You will need to sign in with your WSU email address and password.

  3.  Pick the items you want to delete by selecting the check box in the upper-right corner of items.

  4.  On the bar at the top of the page, tap or click Delete.

  

To delete files in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or using the OneDrive desktop app:

  1. On your taskbar, select File Explorer.

  2. Select your OneDrive folder, select the items you want to delete, and press the Delete key on your keyboard.

 

To remove items from your shared list: 

  1. Go to the OneDrive website: http://onedrive.com.

  2. Pick the items you want to remove by selecting the check box in the upper-right corner of items.

  3. On the bar at the top of the page, tap or click Remove from shared list.

 

To restore deleted items from OneDrive website: 

  1. Go to the OneDrive website http://onedrive.com.

  2. On the left pane, tap or click Recycle bin.

  3. To restore all items, tap or click Restore all items. To permanently delete all items, tap or click Empty recycle bin. To restore or permanently delete individual items, pick them by selecting their check boxes.

Note: If you're signed into OneDrive with a Microsoft account, items in the recycle bin are automatically deleted 30 days after they're put there. If your recycle bin is full, the oldest items will be automatically deleted after three days. If you're signed in with a work or school account, items in the recycle bin are automatically deleted after 93 days, unless the administrator has changed the setting. To restore deleted items in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or using the OneDrive desktop app: 
When you delete files on OneDrive using File Explorer, they're moved to your computer's desktop Recycle Bin. Unless your Recycle Bin is overflowing, the files stay there until you empty the Recycle Bin.

  1. To open the Recycle Bin, double-tap or double-click the Recycle Bin on the desktop. 

  2. Right-click (or press and hold) the item you want to restore, and select Restore.
