Blackboard: How to Add Collaborate to Your Course in Blackboard (Original & Ultra)

A quick tutorial on how to add Blackboard Collaborate. Both the Original version as well as the Ultra.

Original Collaborate

  • Blackboard Collaborate is Blackboard’s internal videoconference application. Allowing students to interact with their professor through video, microphones or text. Blackboard Collaborate is the first iteration of this program and thus operates in a slightly different way. With a different look as well.

    • How to Add Blackboard Collaborate

      • Step 1: Use the Course Management menu on the left side of the page. At the top left of the menu you will see a + symbol. Click that button.

      • Step 2: Choose the option for Tool Link

      • Step 3: A small window will appear asking you to provide a name for the item as well as to use a drop down menu to choose the particular tool that you want. Choose the option for Blackboard Collaborate

      • Step 4: You’re done, Collaborate Original is now on your menu for you and your students to access.

Collaborate Ultra

  • Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is the next version of Blackboard Collaborate. Ultra runs from the browser instead of a downloadable file, which is how Collaborate Original operates. Ultra has a paired down aesthetic, trying to make finding buttons and commands easier.

  • How to Add Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

    • Step 1: Use the Course Management menu on the left side of the page. At the top left of the menu you will see a + symbol. Click that button.

    • Step 2: Choose the option for Tool Link

    • Step 3: A small window will appear asking you to provide a name for the item as well as to use a drop down menu to choose the particular tool that you want. Choose the option for Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

    • Step 4: You’re done, Collaborate Ultra is now on your menu for you and your students to access.

Another Method
If you have the "Tools" option in your course, students can also access Collaborate Original and Collaborate Ultra through that page.
