Blackboard: How Do I Grade Participation, Survey, Etc

A quick tutorial on how to create and grade difficult to track assignments like Participation, Surveys and others

Blackboard: How Do I Grade Participation, Survey, Etc

Normally within Blackboard you are able to create an item that the student can do. Once they have submitted their test or their assignment, you are able to grade it within Blackboard. What do you do when you have something like Participation or a Survey in your course. There is no button or action for Participation and Survey's do not have a score. Create a Column and hide the other one

In the event of something like a survey, you will have a column that provides a check mark but no grade. The method then is to create a column, hide the one that provides checks (you could also assign that column into a Weighted Total Column: see article here)

1. Go to the Full Grade Center

2. Click the "Create Column" button

3. Assign points and provide details for the column

4. After clicking submit, you will be brought back to the Full Grade Center. Go to the Column you are looking to hide and hover your mouse over the title of that column. Click the grey downward arrow to the right of the name.

5. Choose the option for "Hide From Students (on/off)"
