Printing: Wireless printing from iOS and Android devices

How to print from iOS and Android to the Pharos print system using the Pharos Print app.

If you try to print to a Pharos release station from an iOS device, you will run into trouble since the iOS file system isn't directly browsable. Luckily, there is a Pharos Print app for iOS and Android devices, available for free download from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Logging in
Once you have downloaded the app, you will need to log in. On the Server line, enter On the port line, enter 443

Sending a print job to the app
Now you need to send a print job to the app for it to show up in your print queue. First of all, only these file types are supported:
  • Microsoft Office documents
  • Microsoft Outlook files
  • PDF files
  • Images (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP)
  • Text files (CSV, RTF, TXT)
  • OpenOffice documents
In iOS, if you want to print one of these types of documents, press the share button from that document and choose Pharos Print from the top row of available apps. It should then open up in the Pharos Print app. If you want to print a file of a different type, instead choose to create a PDF out of the document, then send it to the Pharos Print app as above.

On Android, you'll instead send a print job by pressing the Upload button within the Pharos Print app and then choose the file you want to print.

In the Pharos Print app, you will see print quantity and other options, as well as your current balance. Make your desired choices and then click the Apply Changes button to send your print job. You will then see your print job in the queue. If you then go to a Pharos release station around campus and swipe your card, you should see that print job and complete the print.
